DBCP has welcomed the news that the developer of Derby’s Nightingale Quarter, Wavensmere Homes, has been shortlisted for a hat-trick of prestigious industry awards in the Insider East Midlands Property Awards.
Wavensmere Homes, along with fellow collaborators Gould Singleton Architects, Connells Estate Agents, Derby City Council, Marketing Derby, have been shortlisted for Regeneration & Restoration Project of the Year and Construction Project of the Year. Wavensmere Homes has also been shortlisted for the Residential Developer of the Year award.
Wavensmere, a regeneration and place-making specialist, is working alongside DBCP to deliver the six-year landmark housing project, which will create nearly 1000 hi-spec city centre homes.
Located in the heart of Derby city centre, Nightingale Quarter is a truly unique development. The £175 million project includes the restoration of the Pepperpot landmark buildings and monuments from the 130-year-old former Derby Royal Infirmary and is being delivered in phases. The first five phases are being delivered simultaneously and will see over half the properties being completed during 2023.
As well as creating a total of 925 hi-spec city centre houses and apartments, the scheme incorporated six acres of green open space, parkland and gardens. At 18.5 acres, Nightingale Quarter is one of the biggest city centre regeneration schemes in the UK.
James Dickens, managing director of Wavensmere Homes, praised DBCP’s support saying: “By working with David Pratt and the wider DBCP team we have been able to create a much better product through our collaboration. We have aimed to exceed building regulations to enable us to offer higher quality building stock and, hopefully, future proof the homes for both buyers and tenants.”

It is no surprise that demand has exceeded supply at Nightingale Quarter, as James explained: “We’re building attainable stock, that means we’re attracting first time buyers, down-sizers and London commuters.
“The fact that Derby has a number of notable employers like Rolls-Royce and that London is only one hour and 10 minutes away by train, has enabled us to really push the envelope with design at Nightingale Quarter and bring forward some city centre living of real note.”

The development, which already has a number of residents, is creating a brand-new community, close to the heart of the city centre, which is helping the city deliver its aspirations for increased city living, and additional footfall that in turn will generate greater vibrancy, supporting Derby’s retail, cultural and hospitality sectors.
The winners of 11 categories will be announced on Thursday 7 September at the East Midlands Property Dinner 2023. The event is THA annual social event for the region’s property sector where the very best the East Midlands has in real estate, construction and design is celebrated and promoted.
