Major construction projects are coming out of the ground across Chesterfield and Derby and Derbyshire Building Control Partnership (DBCP) is helping ensure they are safe and compliant for their new occupants.
From office and housing developments to schools and an Olympic swimming pool, DBCP’s team of building surveyors is working on some of the most exciting projects in the county.
We’ve put together a list of some of the key projects DBCP is supporting in 2021 and beyond:
- Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre – Contractor Robert Woodhead Ltd began construction on the Enterprise Centre in Chesterfield town centre in April 2020. Part of the Northern Gateway scheme, the Enterprise Centre includes 32 high-quality offices over three floors and will open in later this year. The building sits alongside Saltergate multi-storey car park which DBCP also support ahead of its opening in July 2019.
- Chesterfield Waterside – One Waterside Place, at the town’s £340 million Chesterfield Waterside scheme, is a seven storey Grade A office block. It is set to open in September 2021 in the Basin Square neighbourhood of the scheme. Main contractor Britcon Ltd began construction in October 2020. The office block is part of a wider business and residential offering in phase one of Basin Square which comprises offices, a hotel, multi-storey car park and build-to-rent apartments.
- Moorways Sports Village – A brand new, 50m Olympic swimming pool and water park is being built as part of the wider £42million Moorways Sports Village development in Derby. The plans include a ten-lane swimming pool, water park for families and a learner pool. DBCP is currently working with main contractor Heage-based Bowmer + Kirkland. Moorways Sports Village is set to open in Spring 2022.
- The Glass Yard – Developer Blue Deer Ltd is creating office space alongside retail units and an artisan food hall called The Batch House at the 50,000 sq. ft sustainably constructed development. Construction of The Glass Yard got underway in October 2020 with practical completion due in early August 2021.
- Nightingale Quarter – The £150m city centre development on the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site, London Road, Derby will comprise 800 new residential properties. The infirmary’s iconic pepper pot buildings will be converted to include cafés, gyms and exhibition centres for community use. Construction is well under way and DBCP is working with property developers Wavensmere Homes and M. Lambe Construction to deliver the much-anticipated development.
- The Boatyard – Located just outside the village of Unstone, Derbyshire, The Boatyard will play host to Sanctuary Homes’ latest collection of two and three-bedroom affordable rental properties, some of which are also available for shared ownership.
- Castleward Primary School – The school is part of the £100m Castleward Urban Regeneration in Derby which will also comprise 800 new homes, 35,000 sq. ft. of commercial retail space and community spaces on a 30-acre site. As the school, is being built on only a small part of the site, the innovative design will incorporate play spaces on the rooftop areas and terraces including a slide from the first floor to ground level! DBCP is working with Morgan Sindall Construction to deliver the new city centre primary school.
DBCP’s expert team of surveyors are working alongside construction and architect teams across the sites, undertaking regular inspections and ensuring all projects meet Building Regulations during the construction phase.
Together, the seven projects account for around £350million of investment alone in Chesterfield, Derby and surrounding areas.
David Pratt, Building Control Manager at DBCP commented: “The construction industry has continued to operate through the pandemic and we’re delighted to have been able to offer our support and guidance. Ensuring the safety of buildings and their occupants is always our number one priority.
