Derby’s ambitious regeneration programme has prompted DBCP to further strengthen its provision of building control services in the city centre and surrounding areas.
Two new members of staff have been appointed by the leading provider of building control services.
Barry Thomas joins DBCP’s team of Building Control Surveyors to assist with the growing demand the company is experiencing for projects in Derby City Centre, while Tracey Mansell has joined the company’s technical support team.
Barry joins from Thurrock Council, which he joined 10 years ago then made the move into building control 5 years later completing a level 4 CIOB/LABC diploma in building control surveying. He further added to his skills and experience earlier this year when he completed a degree in Building Control at Wolverhampton University as well as achieving full Chartership status with the industry’s leading bodies CABE and CIOB.
He commented: “Derby is a great city and there is so much happening here with residential and commercial developments of all sizes. It’s great to be involved with key projects through DBCP, like Castleward Urban Village and the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary which are part of the City Centre Masterplan. It’s a very exciting time for me professionally.”
Currently, £700 million is being invested across 11 major projects in Derby. The investment, together with the City Centre Masterplan saw the city recently hailed by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Steve Barclay, as a shining example of the Government’s levelling up agenda.
Barry will be supported in his role by DBCP’s technical support team which has been joined by Tracey who lives in Sheen. Tracey will provide frontline support to builders, architects and property owners, and DBCP’s team of building control surveyors operating throughout Derbyshire and Staffordshire Moorlands.
Tracey commented: “I have always had a keen interest in architecture, building and design and a dedication to delivering excellent customer service so when this role came up, I seized the opportunity.”

DBCP operates across Derbyshire and Staffordshire Moorlands, working directly with eight local authorities to provide the best, most up-to-date building control service.
