To assist with the recovery of Derbyshire’s high streets post coronavirus lockdown, Derbyshire Building Control Partnership (DBCP) is giving away high street vouchers.
From 1 August until 31 October, DBCP will give £30 in vouchers to every person who submits a Building Notice for an extension or internal alterations to a domestic property.
As Building Control approval is a legal requirement when undertaking structural alterations to a property, DBCP is anticipating high demand for the vouchers which will be issued once payment is received for full plan and inspection fees.
And, to support both independent retailers and larger chain stores on the high street, people have the option of choosing either £30 in ShopAppy, Love2Shop and now Love Belper vouchers. All vouchers can be spent in-store or online with participating retailers.
ShopAppy is a digital platform specifically designed to support local businesses, self-employed people, hospitality and retail businesses. It is live in 100 areas of the UK and enables people to shop at local independent shops online and collect purchases in-store from one single point.
Love2shop gift vouchers are accepted at more than 20,000 UK stores, including Argos, Wilko and Boots.
Neil Johnson, Managing Director of DBCP, explained: “As a building control organisation we are embedded within the communities in which we operate throughout Derbyshire and we have seen firsthand the adverse effect lockdown has had on them. We want to do our bit to help support the high street’s recovery. By providing the vouchers we are hopefully encouraging people to start spending on their local high street and play a part in the recovery of the economy.”
A recent study from the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has found that one in three office workers want to continue working from home after the coronavirus threat is over.
The survey revealed that 32 per cent of people are expecting to at least partially work from home even after the lockdown has ended and it is believed that this could lead to a surge in house extension jobs for builders.
Modular housebuilder Built & Spaces has seen a rise in online searches for extensions, garden rooms, home offices and annexes, and it is thought to be a result of people realising they need more space now they are working from home.
